Allay Your Epilepsy Fears as help is near

By Jennypinto on May 16, 2012 in Diseases & Condition

Epilepsy is a seizure disorder that is caused due to abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Epilepsy can cause convulsions, loss of consciousness and sensory disturbances. Unfortunately, the biggest misconception about epilepsy is that it is a mental illness or mental retardation, but epilepsy is neither that nor is it contagious. Lyrica, as a combination therapy with some other medications, is approved for treating epilepsy.

What is Epilepsy and What Are Its Causes?

Epilepsy is a brain disorder that causes clusters of the brain’s nerve cells to make abnormal signals. The neurons that generate electrochemical impulses for internal bodily communication start behaving abnormally and sending out erroneous signals. This brain disturbance causes unusual behaviors, sensations and muscle spasms in patients suffering from epilepsy and trigger what are known as epileptic seizures. A person is only considered to be epileptic (a patient of epilepsy) if he has had at least two epileptic seizures.

Though epilepsy sounds like a simple illness that just causes seizures, epilepsy patients may actually experience over thirty types of seizures. All of these thirty seizure types can be categorized into two main categories, namely focal or partial seizures and generalized seizures. As the name suggests, focal seizures only occur in a part of the brain and these types of seizures are the most common in epilepsy patients.
Unfortunately, it may not be possible to isolate one particular epilepsy cause out of its many causes.  Basically, anything that disrupts the normal neuron activity patterns in the brain be it an underlying illness or abnormal brain development, can be the cause of epilepsy. A chemical imbalance or an abnormality in brain functioning, or even a combination of two or three factors, can also cause epilepsy. Though the cause of epilepsy may never be singularly isolated, some of the possible causes (which are the factors causing over half of the epilepsy cases) are:

•    Parallel or underlying medical conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease or strokes
•    Head injury or trauma
•    Any brain infection such as meningitis
•    A brain tumor
•    Drug or alcohol abuse
•    Genetic or family history
Epilepsy treatment is not singularly dependant on the use of medication such as Lyrica. Some other epilepsy treatments include making dietary changes, having epilepsy surgeries and biofeedback.

Lyrica and Epilepsy

As mentioned earlier, Lyrica (pregabalin) is used in the treatment of epilepsy along with some other combination medications. Along with epilepsy, Lyrica may also be prescribed for other brain related disorders and it has several other off-label uses as well. Fibromyalgia pain, post-therapeutic neuralgia, anxiety, etc. can also be treated with Lyrica.

When epileptic patients are given Lyrica as an add-on or combination medication, there are significant reductions in the number of seizures encountered by them and the side effects are minimal as well. While this is mostly the case, Lyrica may not be the best medication for just about everyone and several medication combinations need to be tried out in order to find that perfect medicine combination for you. The best advantage that Lyrica has over other epilepsy medications is that it has minimal interactions and even people who need to take other medications for other underlying illnesses can take Lyric safely.

Under normal conditions, the brain cells need to fire at certain rates for normal functioning, but during a seizure, these same brain cells are forced to fire abnormally rapidly. Lyrica slows down these abnormally fast brain cells and thus prevents seizures from happening. Lyrica can help stop a seizure that has just started. Though it is not completely understood how Lyrica achieves what it does and why it is effective against seizures, empirical studies prove that it is actually effective when used as a combination treatment.

Lyrica is a prescription medication that should not be ordered or bought without a valid doctor’s prescription. Once you have your Lyrica prescription though, you can buy Lyrica online from any reputed pharmacy or purchase it from a pharmacy near you.

It you thinking of from where to buy Lyrica is a choice that is completely up to you, but if you make the purchase from any discount pharmacy, your medical bills will be distinctly lower. Consider these savings all through your long-term treatment and you can only imagine the overall savings that you make.

Use of Risperdal Generic for the treatment of developmental disorders in children

By admin on May 15, 2012 in Diseases & Condition

Autism is a disorder related to the mental and emotional development of children. Pervasive developmental disorder (PDD) is a name given to a group of diseases leading to impaired or delayed development in children. Kids suffering from Autism or PDD have an inability to learn communication and social skills. They may also suffer from an inability to learn cognitive skills. The behavior of a child suffering from PDD can not be called normal. Therefore, it becomes important that these kids are treated with efficient medications such as Risperdal Generic. Parents of kids struggling with developmental disorders can purchase Risperdal Generic for treating them in an effective manner. PDD is also referred to as Autism spectrum disorder or ASD since autism is the commonest developmental disorder seen in kids. A few other conditions included under PDD are childhood disintegrative disorder, Rett syndrome and Asperger’s syndrome.

Common signs and symptoms of PDD:

Most of the signs and symptoms of PDD become apparent during the first 2 or 3 years after birth. In some patients, the signs are quite subtle and are not easy to distinguish from the behavior of normal children. The commonly occurring symptoms of PDD are difficulty in interacting with others along with lack of abilty to relate to the surroundings. Kids try to avoid eye contact and also exhibit abnormal activities like tapping or spinning the hands. There is a delay in the normal milestones. In some cases, the already achieved milestones may also be lost. Parents can see their kids playing with the same toy in a repetitive or odd way. Children also have an inability to learn language and do not seem to be interested in exploring their surroundings.

Common causative factors of PDD:

The exact reason of PDD is still not known. It is estimated to occur because of the interplay of complex neurological defects in the brain. This condition may occur because of the abnormal chromosomes that are inherited by the child from his or her parents. Exposure to toxins in the environment is also suspected to be a reason for PDD. But, the exact role of these factors in the development of PDD is yet to be established. It is important to mention that this disorder does not occur as a result of any past experience or trauma.

Diagnosis:

Diagnosis of PDDs is usually done during infanthood or early childhood. The diagnosis can be made based on the typical behavior of the patient. Unfortunately, there are no blood tests for detecting this disorder. Brain tests such as MRI are also not helpful for the diagnosis of developmental disorders. Some very effective methods that can help in detecting this condition are language assessments, parent questionnaires, educational assessments and behavior assessments.

Effective management of PDD is possible by using Risperdal Generic. Parents can order Risperdal Generic if their kids are suffering from autism or PDD. This medication works in these disorders by maintaining the balance of chemical substances in the brain. When parents buy Risperdal Generic, they should keep in mind that the package of this medicine should never be opened until the child is ready to take a tablet of it. Remarkable improvement in the behavior and learning ability of the child can be noticed after beginning treatment with this drug.

Tuberculosis – Its Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

By admin on May 15, 2012 in Diseases & Condition

Tuberculosis or T.B. is an extremely common and highly contagious respiratory disease that spreads through sneezing and coughing. It is caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which is also referred to as the tubercle bacillus. These bacteria are spread through the spray of water vapor expelled whenever an infected individual coughs or sneezes. If there is a lack of ventilation, anyone that breathes the infected air can get infected with tuberculosis. It is quite possible for almost one-third of people around a tuberculosis patient to get infected with TB.

The tuberculosis bacterium can enter the respiratory system and spread to other organs if it is not suppressed by the immune system. In case any person who is exposed to tuberculosis is healthy, then his/her immune system is able to contain the bacteria. This is called Latent Tuberculosis, which could become active if the immune system is weakened, either due to age or perhaps diseases like AIDS.

When an individual’s immune system is strong and functions properly, it can restrain the bacteria in tubercles or small sacs within the lungs, thus stopping the bacteria from spreading to other body parts where they can lead to more damage and even death. However, if the body is not able to stop the bacteria from spreading, they could spread through the blood to other body parts such as the kidneys, spine and female reproductive organs. Furthermore, TB could also spread from a mother to an unborn child.

Symptoms of Tuberculosis:

Sometimes, the symptoms of tuberculosis may not appear until later in life because the immune system keeps the disease under control. However, with age and the weakening of the immune system, the disease begins to take effect.

The most common symptom of tuberculosis is persistent cough, which is accompanied by phlegm and even blood. The cough turns more prominent with time. Patients suffering with TB become weak, lose focus and often fall ill.

Tuberculosis patients experience chills and night sweats. They often fall sick and experience fever and uneasiness. Night sweats become a common phenomenon even during the cold weather.

Another very common symptom of tuberculosis is loss of appetite. Patients suffering from tuberculosis experience a drastic loss in appetite which consequently results in weight loss. Patients become weak and lose strength. This weakness helps the disease to spread much faster as the immune system turns a lot weaker, thus allowing the bacteria to become stronger.

Chest pain is another symptom of TB which causes a lot of uneasiness. Breathing becomes a lot more difficult with time because the membranes lining the lungs become infected and inflamed, due to a condition known as pleurisy. Swelling of lymph glands and joints in the body are some other symptoms of tuberculosis.

Unlike the past, today there are quite a few treatments and medications available to help treat tuberculosis. Drugs like Pyrazinamide have proven very effective in treating this contagious disease. Pyrazinamide is used alone or in a combination with other medications in order to effectively terminate the growth of the bacteria that cause tuberculosis. Patients can purchase Pyrazinamide from their local pharmacy or even order Pyrazinamide online. However, it is recommended to seek advice from a doctor before you decide to buy pyrazinamide for the treatment of tuberculosis.
